What our visitors say

“Made the trip with high expectations.  All expectations were exceeded, blown out of the water.  Was hoping to land a few  pike on my fly rod and broke all my personal records with a 46" pike on the fly.  8 pike 40" or larger in 3 days.  Thanks to the guides, Darren, Joel, Georgie for putting us in the right spots, again, again, again.” — Galen Sonntag, Dan Reynolds

The Fishing

The latin "Esox lucius" translates to "Water Wolf", we believe a fitting title for this hungry predator of our northern waters.

With an extremely low level of fishing pressure, most fish never see a hook, and the long lifespan of fish in these cooler waters produces much bigger than average fish.  Pike that may live for 10 to 12 years further south may live past 20 years in our fishery, and in that time 40" plus pike become abundant.

The Lodge

Morning and evening meals are served in the main lodge. Your day of fishing can begin as early as you like—many of our guests enjoy early morning fishing off our dock. Your guide will be ready in the morning for a full day's excitement on the water. At noon, enjoy fresh caught fish cooked to perfection by your guide. When you are done  fishing for the day, you'll return to the lodge to get ready for a fabulous dinner.

Patrick Babcock
Owner

Pat Babcock bought Cree River Lodge in 2008.  You could say he was just following the family plan after growing up spending much time at Deception Lake Lodge, owned by his Grandparents.  A place of his own was something he had the opportunity to own at the age of 32.

Prior to purchasing Cree River Lodge, Pat was involved in cattle farming, oil field trucking and sod farming.  But owning a fishing lodge of his own was something he wanted to do and then set about to make it his own. The first 5 cabins, plus lodge, were already built when he bought the Lodge.

Pat believes in a business built around a family of employees and a couple hundred friends as customers.  He describes his number one job as "Keep everybody helping everybody."
